The tensions between Israel and Palestine that exploded into war on October 7th, 2023, have become a pressing issue for the international community, which is why possible solutions, hostage exchanges, and, perhaps, a ceasefire, have been brought to the UN. The delegation of Palestine separated itself from the group Hamas and states that it only wants the best for its citizens. The committee seems to be focused on ways to defend the citizens who are currently suffering because of this armed conflict, and international cooperation seems to be on the horizon until Hamas forces its own delegation to be included in the discussion.
The delegation of Hamas formally requests the founding of an Islamic state in Israel and Palestine, led by the organization. This is opposed by the delegate of the USA, who considers Hamas to be a terrorist organization unfit of governing, and should be abolished. The delegation of Israel sees this as an opportunity to threaten Hamas and states that it is prepared to take any and all actions to make sure they are eradicated. The USA, taking Israel’s side, requests for all hostages to be released by Hamas in a 45-day prisoner exchange period, and asks for Hamas to completely leave the Gaza strip. In the midst of this heated debate, the People’s republic of China urges the nations to strive for peacekeeping in these difficult times. The US, in turn, requests China’s help for a possible two-state solution. With so many parties and the polarization of the two bands, the committee does not come to any conclusions.
