CNGMUN XLII Day 1- GLS- The extents of Jus Ad Bellum

Jus Ad Bellum; one of the fundamental principles of international law and politics. The world established it, but to what extent should it be respected? This is the topic on the table for the Global Leaders Summit. Delegates of all walks of life discussed the just causes to go to war and how legitimate they are, as well as how these relate to their own causes.

Among the emblematic figures of this committee was the dictator Francisco Franco, who defended his reasons for taking over Spain. In his words, he went to war to uphold the traditions of his nation, which, after centuries, was in decadence and needed somebody capable of keeping it afloat. His firm hand methods, according to the dictator, were the only ones able to keep Spain from crumbling on itself. At the core of his discourse was the belief of Spain and its peoples’ superiority, a belief shared by another prominent figure in the committee: Adolf Hitler. The politician’s view on the superiority of the Aryan race and the cause of keeping Europe ‘pure’ were his Jus Ad Bellum. This dialogue was, of course, opposed by many other delegates such as Malala who advocate for equality, and see segregation as an invalid reason for warfare.
