Tensions rise as the delegates discuss how to fix the problem with emergent freedom fighting groups threatening to disband Haiti’s government to establish one of their own. Led by the USA, some delegations support a military intervention to stop groups like the G9 from staging a military coup, thus taking power by violence. Delegations such as the People’s Republic of China oppose foreign intervention as they deem the problem to be local, bringing up the US and their role in making Haiti a puppet state for many decades prior to the current issue. The PRC states that, for Haiti to rebuild their democracy and their state, they should solve problems autonomously. The delegation stated that it would even go as far as to support the freedom fighting groups in Haiti if their intervention ultimately leads to peace.
The delegation of the republic of France instead proposed a plan to fix each problem through international cooperation between the countries present. However, the delegation of the republic of Colombia brought up the Haitians’ mixed opinions on the UN and its own missions for Haiti, stating that the country and their citizens should be taken into account when coming up with these strategies.
Following a crisis, which had the delegate of Haiti replaced by a representative of the G9, the session took a darker turn. The representative first affirms that Haiti’s problems should be between Haiti and its neighbors, not foreign influences such as the delegations of France and the USA. Because of this, and the G9’s unfaltering opinion of violence being the only way to rebuild Haiti’s democracy, the delegation of the USA formally invades Haiti. This leaves the committee with a new set of questions and problems colored in red, white, and blue.
