CRISIS Feb 17- Rafaela Jinich

After the closing of the first topic on Burkina Faso, the second topic was introduced: Governmental instability and humanitarian crisis in Venezuela. Accordingly, delegations stood up one by one to recite their opening amendments, which summed up the alliance and opinion for many delegations. Latin american countries such as Chile expressed how they believe the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro should end now. Countries such as China and Russia shared the belief in how they will not support this illegitimate country and even though they do recognize the emergency they are willing to share aid. On the other hand, delegations such as Cuba which in the past have established a dictatorial regime in their own countries express their beliefs in how they want to help out the citizens instead of fighting against the government. Afterall, the delegation of Venezuela claims that economic and humanitarian aid provided by western powers are critic to solve this issue, even though the United States fought against this point as to why other countries should avoid sanctions to help citizens. During the debate, the delegation of Cuba said “the venezuelan government is very stable”. This saying instantly increased tension in the committee and was added to the register by the chair.
